How to get rid of melasma dark patches on my face?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from melasma, dark patches, age spots, sunburns, and tanning. Suggest a cream for getting clear skin.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Apply Azelaic acid 10 % cream over the pigmented patches at night for 21 days. Use Azac (Azelaic acid) soap for bathing for two months. Use a sunscreen lotion with SPF (sun protection factor) of 50, 20 minutes before bathing for 20 days. Wash your face using organic facewash twice daily for 20 days. I suggest capsule Antoxid (Beta carotene) once at night for a month. Consume nuts, almonds, cashews, and walnuts. Consume a protein-rich diet with curd and yogurt. Exercise regularly for 20 minutes. Drink seven to eight glasses of water daily. Consume vitamin C-rich fruits like oranges, sweet lime, lemon, gooseberries, and kiwi. Avoid stress and practice meditation or yoga. Moisturize using Cetaphil lotion immediately after bathing and keep your skin hydrated. Minimize exposure to sun, dust, or pollutants and use sunglasses or an umbrella during exposure to the sun. Avoid sunlight between 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. Consume green leafy vegetables, carrots, sprouts, and fresh fruits like papaya, mangoes, guava, and pomegranates. Use a mild soap for clear skin. It should be non-fragrance, non-greasy, non-sticky, or non-comedogenic. Be gentle with your skin after cleansing your face. Pat dry using a soft towel. Take DHEAS (Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate) test. Follow up with reports.
