Can tablets of Methylestradiol induce heavy bleeding in my wife?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife has heavy bleeding for the last two weeks, as she missed her periods. We checked through pregnancy stripping, but the result was negative. We frequently checked for one week, but the results were negative; then we consulted with the doctor, and she gave us Methylestradiol two tablets. After a week, we tested from the laboratory, but the result was negative; after three days of laboratory tests, she got her periods, but it is not stopping now. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I have gone through your history (attachment removed for protecting patient's identity) and understand your concerns. However, as per your description, these symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance as she has an irregular period, it could be anovulatory cycle. Get a pelvic ultrasound to see the endometrial thickness and other causes of the symptoms. Also check thyroid profile and hemoglobin test. For excessive bleeding, she can use medication. She has to take a high protein diet and lots of vegetables and fruits, and also she can take iron and calcium supplements. It is normal at her age to bleed like this due to hormonal changes, no need to worry about it.

Please follow up for further assistance.

Thank you.
