Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am experiencing vaginal stabbing pain during my period. It is the first time it feels like this. It is not cramps. My cramps normally feel different. It got much worse when I wore a tampon. Normally, I always wear a tampon and it never hurts. But even without a tampon, it hurts.

Hi,

Glad to hear from you.

I am here to answer all your questions.

Vaginal stabbing pain during your period particularly if it is a new and different sensation for you, could have various potential causes such as infections. Yeast or bacterial infections can cause pain or discomfort in the vaginal area. It is advisable to seek medical attention to rule out any underlying infections.

  1. Vaginal dryness or irritation: Hormonal changes during your menstrual cycle can affect vaginal lubrication, leading to dryness and irritation, which may result in pain. Using a lubricant specifically designed for vaginal use might help relieve discomfort.

  2. Allergic reaction or sensitivity: If you recently switched to a different brand of tampons or sanitary pads, you may be experiencing an allergic reaction or sensitivity to certain materials or ingredients. Trying alternative brands or opting for hypoallergenic options might be worth considering.

  3. Endometriosis or reproductive conditions: Although this is less common, conditions like endometriosis or adenomyosis can cause pain during menstruation. If you experience other symptoms such as heavy bleeding or severe cramps. It is important to consult with a gynecologist for further evaluation.

I am thankful that you have confidence in me to help you.

Please stay safe and healthy. Thank you.
