What could be the reason behind mild brown spotting during ovulation?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had an ultrasound on the 18th day and there was no ovulation yet. On the 24th day, I had a little brown spotting, and on the 25th day, I had an ultrasound and was told that I ovulated (corpus luteum was seen). But I have been spotting and still am. My doctor advised me to take Utrogestan from day 17 to 26. I never bled outside my regular period while being on Utrogestan. Also, my morning temperature on day 27 is 36.6 degrees. Is this an early period? Or is the bleeding caused by other factors?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There is a possibility that sometimes, during ovulation spotting or slight bleeding could occur, so this could be the ovulation spotting. Please mention some details so that I can help you properly. How is your menstrual cycle? What is the average length of the menstrual cycle? How long have you been trying for a baby? Are there any medical conditions like PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) or hypothyroidism?

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your answer.

My menstrual cycle was not regular and I took contraceptive pills for six months, then on Utrogestan for two months, then again for one month of contraception, and after that month, my ovulation was really late. Considering this cycle, I have no idea when my ovulation occurred between day 18 to 25, but on day 25 they confirmed ovulation happened. I am not sure about the average length of my menstrual cycle. We are not trying for a baby, but just want to regulate my ovulation and menstrual cycle. I have no history of PCOS and hypothyroidism.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As per your description, your doctor said that your ovulation was around the bleeding or spotting, then it must be ovulation spotting only. Ovulation spotting does not occur always in every cycle but sometimes in case of stress or recent illness. There is no need for any intervention right now. So tomorrow will be the last dose of Tablet Utrogestan (Progesterone 200 mg), after stopping this your actual menstrual bleeding will occur within a week.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
