Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 47-year-old healthy male. I wanted to go for elective cosmetic surgery under general anesthesia. However, I am afraid of the operating room and general anesthesia.
I have an irrational fear that my body will start trembling out with fear. In addition, my blood pressure and heart rate may shoot up on the way to or on the operating table. Will a premedication Midazolam help me calm down before surgery and undergo surgery successfully? My blood pressure and other parameters are otherwise healthy. Please advise.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Yes, Midazolam (Benzodiazepine medication) will help. It is related to anxiety. Also, you can try Alprazolam 0.5 mg the night before the surgery.
You can contact an anesthetist and have a pre-anesthesia evaluation. The doctor will prescribe it to you. The anesthetist will do basic investigations, and please ask him to run thyroid tests before the surgery. You must also fast for at least eight hours before the scheduled surgery.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
