Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am concerned about my sister, who has been having migraine attacks for the past seven months and has been taking several painkillers for it. The migraine headache keeps recurring, and she is not able to overcome it. She is now 31 years old, and due to this issue, she is not able to focus on anything. I recently got to know about Rimegepant medication. What would be your opinion about this medicine? Is this safe and effective? Can this prevent the recurrence of migraines? Is this medicine for life long?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Actually, this is a new drug for acute migraine cases, and it is on trial. So, I would suggest you avoid it for a while until full data is available. Due to a lack of data, we cannot say that it will be very effective or less effective, but as far as we know, it is for acute migraine attacks. In your case, you have chronic migraine issues which are coming from a very long period of time. So, I would suggest you wait for a while, and then if proper information is available, you can use this drug with the help of your doctor. Till that, I would suggest you continue the same line of treatment.

If anything else, please let me know.

Thank you.
