Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 48-year-old male. I am having migraine attacks from time to time. My doctor advised me to go for this injection called Vyepti, and I am getting worried about it. He has informed me it needs to be taken four times a year. Will it be effective in controlling my pain? What will happen if I take it more than four times? Also, I would like to know if there will be any side effects like erectile issues, hallucinations, etc. Please give me more information about this injection.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing. I read your query and can understand your concern.

Injection Vyepti 100 mg/mL (300 mg Eptinezumab per 3 mL. and 40.5 mg of sorbitol in each mL) is an approved drug for migraine prevention that is injected via an intravenous line every three months. It is an antibody. You cannot simply take it more than four times a year because it is not a pain reliever. After every injection, that antibody will remain in your body for three months, reducing the frequency of migraine attacks. This medication is generally safe and has one of the lowest frequency of side effects. The most common side effects are nasal congestion and sore throat. However, there is a very low possibility that some persons show severe allergic reactions to it; the possibility is quite low. Its efficacy varies from person to person as it depends on many factors. You should not expect a miraculous effect or total eradication of migraine from Vyepti, as its effect is partial.

I hope I have answered your question.

Thank you.
