Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I missed my period. I do not know if I am pregnant or not. I have taken a pill before and after the intercourse. I am waiting for my period to flow. I already used pregnancy kit test, but I am not satisfied with the result.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A urine pregnancy test is unable to detect very early pregnancy. It is better to have serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) (blood pregnancy test) immediately to check your pregnancy status.

In transvaginal scans also, early pregnancy is confusing. If the test comes positive, you can repeat the test after 48 hours to check the progression of the pregnancy. If beta hCG shows an increase in level. More than 60% then it is a normal healthy pregnancy. If beta hCG is less than 60%, it is alarming and an emergency. You need urgent evaluation for ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage.

1. I suggest you take Folic Acid 0.4 mg daily. If you are not on any chronic medications.

2. Eat a healthy diet, walk daily, and maintain a normal BMI (body mass index) and weight.

3. If pregnancy is negative through a blood pregnancy test, then only you can have menstrual induction.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
