Answered by Dr. Ali Osman

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Missing menstrual periods for two months at the age of 19 can happen for several reasons. One possible cause is pregnancy if sexual intercourse has occurred recently. Even if protection was used, it is still important to take a home pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.

Body weight may also play an important role in menstrual health. A weight of around 99.2 pounds may be considered low depending on height. When body weight or body fat becomes too low, the body may stop ovulation and menstrual cycles. This condition is sometimes called hypothalamic amenorrhea, in which the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that regulates hormones, temporarily pauses the menstrual cycle because the body senses that energy reserves are insufficient.

Stress, emotional changes, lack of sleep, or significant lifestyle changes can also delay menstrual periods. The abnormal functioning of hormones, such as in the case of polycystic ovary syndrome and dysfunction in the thyroid gland, can also result in missed periods among some women.

If there has been any kind of sexual intercourse involved, the next step would be to take a pregnancy test. It is also essential to eat regularly and include foods which have enough calories, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and good fats.

If the menstrual period does not return within another month, it would be advisable to consult a doctor for further evaluation. The doctor may recommend tests such as hormone blood tests or a pelvic ultrasound to examine the ovaries and uterus.

Additional information, such as whether sexual intercourse occurred during the past two to three months, whether menstrual cycles were regular previously, and whether there has been recent weight loss or significant stress, may help determine the most likely cause of the missed periods.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
