Could the changes on the scalp and stomach mole be cancerous?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have noticed something on my scalp, and also have a mole on my stomach. I am concerned that it could be cancerous. The mole has not changed in shape, does not hurt, and seems to follow the 'ABCD' rule. It has been present for quite some time. Should I be worried? Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It appears you have described what seems to be melanocytic nevus or seborrheic keratosis on your stomach and scalp, based on the provided information and images (attachment removed to protect patient's identity). Both of these conditions are considered benign and typically do not require immediate intervention. However, if you notice any sudden changes in the mole, such as an increase in size, differential pigmentation, bleeding, or irregular borders, it is advisable to consider a skin biopsy for further evaluation.

If you wish to have the mole removed for cosmetic purposes, you can discuss various options with a dermatologist, such as shave excision under local anesthesia, TCA (trichloroacetic acid) cautery, radiofrequency cautery, or laser treatment. Following the procedure, it is important to have a follow-up appointment after one month for review and to ensure proper healing.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
