Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 30-year-old woman, and interested in understanding more about monoclonal antibodies in the context of COVID-19. Can you provide information on how monoclonal antibodies work, their effectiveness in treating or preventing COVID-19, and any considerations or precautions associated with their use? Additionally, how do monoclonal antibodies differ from vaccines, and is there a recommended approach or combination of treatments for those who have contracted the virus?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to Icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Our body has an immune system that particularly produces antibodies. The antibodies fight against infections like viral infections or any other serious infections. The monoclonal antibodies work in the same pattern. It is like we are giving extra support to our immune system to kill the infection. Monoclonal antibodies resemble our antibodies in the body, but we should not be taking them or else, it will suppress our natural immune system.

So for the prevention of COVID-19, we should not be taking monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies are advised when our immune system stops working and we need antibodies. So let your immune system fight against the infection, and it will heal automatically, so there is no need to take monoclonal antibodies

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of more queries.

Thank you.
