Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I recently had my mustache transplant in the first week of this month, and now I notice changes in my lips, especially when I smile; my upper lips appear more awkward. Can this be due to local anesthesia given during the procedure? How long will it take to completely heal? Are there any similar cases before? Kindly help.

Hi.

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Post Moustache transplant, changes may be noticed in the lip and the area where the procedure is done due to local anesthesia. There may be mild to moderate swelling, redness, numbness, itching, burning sensation, and discomfort. It can take up to three to four weeks for the completely healed and the inflammation to subside. However, it is a normal phenomenon, and you do not have to worry. Make sure to get enough rest and make sure to take rest in 45 degrees reclined position for faster anti-inflammatory actions. There are no medications required for the same. They will subside on their own.

However, in case you are facing any difficulties, including swallowing, closing and opening of mouth area, difficulty in closing eyes, dripping of saliva from the corner of the mouth, difficulty puffing up your cheeks, and consuming food and water, I would suggest you consult a surgeon and a neurologist.

Kindly revert for more queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you for your reply, doctor.

Is there something I should do if the swelling does not subside within four weeks? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If the inflammation does not subside, you may consult a surgeon in person to examine the area and check for any complications.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
