Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My relative has myelodysplastic syndrome or myeloproliferative neoplasm overlap syndromes. He was told that if the disorder takes an acute transformation, then it may be life-threatening. However, could you please tell me if there is some other way (or some other stage) in which the disorder can become life-threatening? I would be very grateful for the benefit of your expertise on this matter.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Myelodysplastic syndrome or myeloproliferative neoplasm is a collection of disorders, singly or collectively called so. The life threat depends on chromosomal abnormalities, the number of blast cells (highly proliferating cells), the number of lineages involved, and cytopenia. Please share the workup done for a conclusive comment.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Could you please tell me if it is possible for myelodysplastic syndrome or myeloproliferative neoplasm overlap syndromes to become life-threatening to someone, even if there is no blast transformation?
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
These disorders are always life-threatening, at least in the long term, maybe in a couple of years. And they invariably transform too, if not treated. Treatment depends on various factors such as chromosome abnormalities and the extent and types of cytopenia involved. I hope that answers your query. Do revert with the reports if possible for a conclusive comment.
Thank you.
