Patient's Query

Hello doctor

I am a 32 year old female. I have worn spectacles since the age of 10 due to myopia. It began at -0.5 and is currently at -6. Will this get worse in the future, or should I get LASIK surgery? In addition, if things continue this way, I worry that I may go blind. Are there any eye exercises I should perform as well? I work in IT, so I spend a lot of time in front of screens. Kindly guide me.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Myopia develops over time. Now that you have passed the growing age, the progression is complete. It generally ends around age 21 or 22. You can now explore possibilities for LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis), SMILE procedures (Small incision lenticule extraction), or PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) by taking into consideration the results of topographic screening tests for corneal health. If everything is normal, you could go ahead and do it. However, since you operate with screens, you must take care of eye dryness. Continue using lubricating eye drops, take regular rests, shield your eyes from blue light, and utilize displays with moderate brightness. Also, consume a lot of antioxidant-rich foods.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
