Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a 15-year-old daughter with a height of 5"4" tall and a weight of 130 pounds. She got Nance appliance seven months ago and have never had a problem with it. A few days ago, She went for a usual six weeks checkup, and her orthodontist irrigated Nance (cleaned it with water). It was fine, but then it became inflamed and painful the next day. It seems like the roof of her mouth is slowly growing over the top of the Nance. I am not sure what to do, she always cleans it very well, so I do not know how this happened. Is there any way that you could figure out what is going on, just by the information I have provided and the picture? Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. Your daughter's palate seems inflamed and swollen (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Was her Nance appliance removed, cleaned, and replaced, or was it cleaned intra-orally? This could give a hint of the probable cause. Sometimes, as the body gets used to the appliance, we do not change. In her case, when Nance was cleaned and placed again, all unwanted debris was removed, and fresh mucosa got a new appliance. It could be a reaction to that as well. I hope this helps. Thank you.
