Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having nasal congestion for the past one week and chest congestion for the last two days. I feel like mucus is stuck at the back of the throat. No fever, running nose or cough. I am using Otrivin nasal spray for nose block. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have been suffering from nasal congestion for one week and chest congestion for the last two days.

According to your clinical scenarios, I think you may be suffered from respiratory tract infection. You can take some medications as follows.

Tablet. Azithral (Azithromycin) 500 mg 0+0+1 for five to seven days.

Tablet Allegra (fexofenadine) 120 mg 0+0+1 for 10 days.

Tablet Singulair (Montelukast) 10 mg 0+0+1 for 15 days.

You can also use stream inhalation mixed with Menthol three to four times daily. By using the above mentioned medications along with your current using a medication, you will be able to get rid of your both nasal congestion and chest congestion.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am a second year medical student can you please explain to me the use of given drugs and as to what specific respiratory infection I might be having? Since Corona is around I am freaking out a bit because of my symptoms. Please reply.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You have nasal congestion for one week with chest congestion for two days and feeling like mucus struck at your throat. Your mucus may become thick, for that reason you could not cough up the mucus out and chest congestion may result from the impaction of thick mucus.

Your nasal congestion and chest congestion can be caused by sinusitis or allergic rhinitis or upper or lower respiratory tract infections. Azithromycin will help to cure infections that may be responsible for your sufferings and protect you from any type of secondary infection.

Fexofenadine and Montelukast will help to control your nasal congestion and chest congestion by getting the mucus out from the body. If you want to know the mechanism of action of Azithromycin, Fexofenadine and Montelukast please inform me and I will try to reply to you further.

You can also undergo an antigen or antibody test for COVID-19 or rt PCR to exclude whether you are COVID-19 positive or not.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
