Can I take Sompraz D after Pan 40 for persistent nausea?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had nausea in the morning and took Pan 40 (Pantoprazole). I also felt like my stomach was not fully emptied in the morning.
I traveled for six hours by road and had nausea throughout the journey. I also kept burping up yesterday's food. I still feel slight nausea and the feeling that my stomach is not fully empty.
Can I take Sompraz D (Esomeprazole and Domperidone) before food, or is it too much since I have already taken Pan D?
In addition, I am also getting a headache on the right side at the back of my neck. I have also had one nostril that is fully dry and crusty, and I wake up with a dry mouth and dry nose. The eye on the same side as the dry nostril also feels slightly heavy.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Based on the symptoms you have described, they are most consistent with a common cold, which is usually caused by a viral infection.
In most instances, the disorder will show gradual improvement after seven to 10 days of supportive treatment. Over-the-counter cold remedies, as recommended, can help reduce symptoms such as nasal congestion, rhinorrhea (runny nose), pharyngitis (pharynx inflammation), and general malaise.
In addition to medications, I recommend
-
Drink plenty of warm fluids, such as warm water, herbal tea, or soup, as these help keep you hydrated and soothe the throat.
-
You may also rinse your nostrils several times a day with a warm saline solution or use a saline nasal spray to reduce congestion and improve breathing.
-
Applying a menthol balm to your chest and upper back before bedtime may help you feel more comfortable and make breathing easier during sleep.
-
Getting adequate rest is also important, as your body needs time to recover from the viral infection.
The nausea you are feeling is most likely linked to the headaches and pain in the back of your head and neck, because pain and nasal congestion may cause nausea. Taking Paracetamol at the right dose will help alleviate the headaches and neck pain. As you recover from the headaches and your nasal congestion clears up, the nausea should also subside.
Regarding your medications, Sompraz D (Esomeprazole and Domperidone) and Pan 40 (Pantoprazole) both belong to the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) class of medications.
Sompraz D contains Esomeprazole combined with Domperidone, whereas Pan 40 contains Pantoprazole alone. Since both medications provide acid suppression, they should not be taken together. If you choose to take Sompraz D, you should discontinue Pan 40 to avoid unnecessary duplication of treatment.
If your symptoms persist for more than 10 days, or if you develop a high fever, have difficulty breathing, severe facial pain, persistent vomiting, a worsening headache, neck stiffness, or any other concerning symptoms, you should seek medical evaluation promptly, as these may indicate a secondary bacterial infection or another condition requiring further assessment.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
