Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have neck pain and took a painkiller, but it does not respond. What to do?

Answered by Dr. Anuj Nigam

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Neck pain can be caused due to many reasons.

What is essential to know while treating neck pain is to identify the cause of neck pain. So, until we find out the cause, the neck pain will not get corrected.

The most common causes of acute neck pain in young patients like you are

1. Wrong posture in daily activities.

2. Muscle spasm.

3. Pinched nerve.

4. Slip disk.

5. Cervical spondylosis.

6. Recent injury.

The exact cause of neck pain can be known by knowing your entire history of the pain. This may require X-rays of the cervical spine, or an MRI will be even better if the pain is due to a pinched nerve.

1. Since when are you experiencing this pain?

2. Did you have any injuries?

3. Did you recently go to the gym or do any heavy object lifting?

4. Is the pain only on one side of the neck or the entire neck region?

5. Do you feel any tingling or numbness in your arms or hands?

6. Do you observe any weakness in lifting objects like glass, pen, or kitchen items?

7. Do your hands feel warm or cold?

8. When does the pain increase in a day? At what time or doing what activities cause an increase in pain?

Please revert with answers.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
