How to overcome negative thoughts and feelings of isolation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Every day feels like a struggle. I wake up with this heavy weight on my chest, and it feels like I am drowning in my own mind. I can not seem to find any joy or excitement in anything. Even simple tasks feel overwhelming, and I find myself isolating from the world.

I am plagued by negative thoughts, and I can not shake off this sense of failure and shame. It feels like the darkness is consuming me, and I am desperate for a glimmer of hope.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for seeking help from a psychiatrist. I can understand your situation.

You may have major depressive disorder. There are non-pharmacological management options for depression, and you should try to follow the guidelines below to help deal with it. They may help you.

  • You should exercise daily for 30 to 45 minutes, such as going for a walk.
  • You should practice meditation for 20 minutes daily. Sit in a comfortable position and try to focus on your normal breathing. Do not try to stop or force your thoughts away; just let them be.
  • You should eat healthy, home-cooked food and avoid junk food.
  • You must drink enough water.
  • You should spend quality time with friends and family.
  • You should engage in creative hobbies like reading good books, journaling, painting, drawing, or learning new skills, languages, or musical instruments.
  • You should get seven to eight hours of sleep daily. You must avoid tobacco, alcohol, and any substance abuse.

Live your life; do not just go through it. Be bold and confident. If your symptoms persist after following this advice for four to six weeks, you may need to start medication for a short duration.

I also suggest that you undergo tests such as CBC (complete blood count), RBS (random blood sugar), thyroid profile, vitamin D3, and vitamin B12 levels.

I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you need further help. Thank you.
