Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

For over a year, I have been experiencing progressive weakness in my hands, feet, legs, and arms. Also, I have been dealing with a persistent burning, itching, and tingling sensation that's been driving me crazy. I frequently feel dizzy, constantly fatigued, and even experience excessive sweating while sitting in an air-conditioned house. I have also noticed that I bruise easily, which started about three months ago. Furthermore, I have been having sharp, pulsing pain in my right big toe and the second toe on my left foot. Since a c-section birth seven years ago, I have had electrifying shock sensations that initially started in my spine, and recently, they have been occurring in my right leg, both arms, and my hands. I had an epidural before the c-section and then needed general anesthesia for the procedure. Despite my efforts to maintain normal vitamin D levels (taking a daily multivitamin, consuming 12 oz tubs each week, and eating 4 to 6 eggs per week), my vitamin D levels remain low.

My doctor conducted blood work around this time last year, and my RDW (red cell distribution width) was elevated (higher than 20 %). In more recent blood tests, my WBC (white blood cells) is elevated (14.4 10^3/uL), as is my RDW (18 %), and my absolute granulocyte count is 9.3 10^3/uL. It is important to note that I am not currently feeling unwell, and I have not been sick recently, nor have I been in contact with anyone displaying signs of illness. My doctor suggests a recheck in three months. Can you offer any insights into this? I am taking the medications like Lyrica, Naproxen, Tylenol, and Motrin for the same complaint. I can provide more information from my blood work, but these are the abnormal levels we have identified so far. We have been doing everything we can to figure out what is going on with me but have not yet found any answer.

Kindly help.

Hello,

I appreciate that you have chosen icliniq.com for your medical needs.

I am here to give you the best care possible.

For progressive weakness and tingling, neuropathy should be ruled out first. You have been prescribed Pregabalin for that neuropathic pain. Check serum blood sugar, serum TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), T4 (thyroxine) estimation, kidney and liver profile. Vitamin deficiency and vascular causes are also possibilities. A neurological examination is needed, and spinal problems should be ruled out if necessary. Check PT (prothrombin time), APTT (activated partial thromboplastin time), and platelet values as bruises are present. For further evaluation, if needed, specific investigations like NCV (nerve conduction velocity) and electromyography (EMG) can be performed. Consult a nearby neurologist for examination and further workup as needed. Treatment will be determined based on the specific cause.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Thank you.
