Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am the mother of a 14-year-old girl, and I am concerned about several symptoms she has been experiencing that may indicate a bleeding disorder. She has frequent and prolonged nosebleeds, and I have noticed that she bruises easily, with large, deep bruises appearing even after minor bumps. Additionally, she often complains of joint pain and swelling, particularly in her knees and elbows. Recently, she had some unusual bleeding from her gums after brushing, and small cuts seemed to take an unusually long time to stop bleeding. Given these symptoms, I am worried that she might have hemophilia or a similar bleeding disorder. Could you please advise on the steps we should take for diagnosis and possible treatment options?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I hope your daughter is fine. For how many days has she had these symptoms? As she is 14 years old, and it is a few days' history, it is less likely to be an inherited disorder like hemophilia, but as you give her history, it seems that she may have some kind of bleeding disorder. To be sure, we need a complete history and a few laboratory investigations. So, I advise you to get the following tests and then send me the reports:
Sometimes, platelet disorders present this way. Platelets may be low or may have abnormal function. If these tests indicate a deficiency in some factor, then we can move toward further tests.
If you send me reports, I will be able to diagnose her. If these symptoms are from childhood, then definitely she has inherited a bleeding disorder, but if recent, then most likely some acquired problem. We have to see all aspects. How is her menstrual cycle?
As patients with bleeding disorders have more bleeding these days, I will be waiting for your further reply.
I hope this information helps you.
Revert in case of queries.
