Can OCD be cured?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife is suffering from OCD. She always washes and cleans everything, even electronic things. She will not touch anyone who come from outside. If in case she touches, then she does take bath immediately. If there is any fly at home, she will watch and wash all those things.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From what you have described, it seems to be a case of OCD (obsessive compulsion disorder) only. One thing I want to ask is whether it causes stress to your wife or does she consider her habits as alright. In case, we finally came to a diagnosis of OCD it requires proper treatment that is medications and psychotherapy. Pattern breathing exercises like Sudarshan Kriya will also help her. OCD can be cured if treatment is taken properly. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

There is no stress at home. She is free to do anything. She does not want to go to doctors.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Do these symptoms bother your wife? Also, please let me know whether she feels that what she do is irrational. For how long she has been suffering from these symptoms? One more thing, does she expect the same behavior from others? Will she get angry if things do not go as she wants to?
