Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I would like to discontinue my birth control pills due to weight gain and bloating. What is the safest way to stop it without risking pregnancy? I had unprotected sex five weeks ago. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I suggest considering exploring alternative methods of contraception, such as using a copper intrauterine device (IUD), which is a T-shaped contraceptive device that is inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy, or using condoms (barrier contraceptives designed to prevent pregnancy), especially if engaging in occasional sexual activity.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

If I discontinue taking the pills now, is there a possibility of becoming pregnant from the sexual encounter I had a month ago?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The oral contraceptive pill (OCP) operates on a 21-day cycle, followed by a seven-day break for withdrawal bleeding, and then the cycle repeats.

Could you please inform me if you experienced withdrawal bleeding after having unprotected intercourse five weeks ago? Also, did you complete the full 21-day cycle and stop, or are you continuing with the pills?

If you are currently taking the pills, I suggest stopping after completing the cycle.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I had unprotected intercourse five weeks ago. After that, I continued with my oral contraceptive pills (OCP) and had my period. I have been continuing the pills and have not stopped them. But do you recommend waiting until I finish the pack at the end of the month to get my period?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I suggest taking the contraceptive pills and finishing this cycle. After completing the cycle, you can then stop taking them. This will help maintain your hormonal balance.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
