I am on birth control and have pain while having sex. Is anything wrong with me?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old woman. I am currently on birth control. My boyfriend and I have tried to have sex on three separate occasions, and everything seemed to be going fine until there was unbearable pain, like my vagina is too small or something. I know it is supposed to hurt the first time but is there any way to make it better to go through with it? Or could there be something wrong with me?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Pain during sex in your case may be due to one of the two causes. Some muscle fibers tear during different positions during sex; there are intense movements, and the second possibility is pelvic infection. You did not give the previous history of sexually transmitted diseases. If there is a history of STD (sexually transmitted disease) or vaginosis or candidial infection, it is more likely due to pelvic infection, which needs appropriate treatment. Do investigations like,

1. Total count.

2. Differential count.

3. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate.

4. Complete urine examination.

Treatment would be Aceclofenac 100 mg, six tablets twice daily for three days after food. Suppose pain subsides entirely within a week; no need for consultation. If the problem persists even after a week, please consult with test reports.

Thank you.
