Could I have bruised or fractured my penis during sex last night?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Last night, during sex, I accidentally forcefully thrust my penis into my partner's pubic bone. There was no popping sound, no loss of erection, and no noticeable swelling or change in penis shape or structure. There was no immediate pain, and I was still able to ejaculate and urinate today. However, this morning (around 12 hours later), I am experiencing some soreness just below the frenulum or lower glans area of the penis. I know that it is possible to fracture the penis, but I am not sure whether my case is more of a bruising or something more severe that I need to see a doctor for an MRI. Is it possible or common to bruise the penis in this scenario, or is a fracture more likely? Any advice?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This is not a fracture of the penis. It is only a contusion where your penis hit. Lucky you, as the fracture is an emergency and requires immediate treatment. No intervention is needed, and no treatment is needed. No MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is required. The pain will go on its own after a few days.

If you have any more queries, please let me know.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Thank you for the assessment. Can you tell me how you know that it is a contusion and not something more serious? Just to ease my worrying mind.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Alright, usually nothing serious can be in this scenario. It can be two things. One is the injury in the layers above tunica albuginea or below. If above, it is a simple contusion and will resolve on its own. If below or deeper, then it is a fracture and will need surgery soonest. In your case, it is not a fracture, and it is a soft tissue injury that will naturally have swelling and pain during healing. That is all.

Thanks and regards.
