Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been recently diagnosed with schizophrenia, and it has been challenging. Can you tell me more about the symptoms of schizophrenia? I have heard about a medication called Invega for schizophrenia. How does Invega work in treating schizophrenia, and what benefits can I expect? Are there any lifestyle changes I should consider alongside medication? What are the potential side effects of Invega, and how long does it take to see improvements in symptoms?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

Schizophrenia is a chronic psychiatric illness. The patient may hear voices when alone, be suspicious that someone can harm or kill (delusions), and exhibit abnormal behavior like sudden laughing or crying, or eating at inappropriate times. If the patient takes treatment properly then it will improve. However, the patient needs to take treatment for a long time. Invega (Paliperidone) is one of the antipsychotic medications that can help you deal with schizophrenia but you must take it under the observation of your psychiatrist. It will reduce your psychotic symptoms and it takes a maximum of four weeks for the full effect of the medication. If you take Invega then it may lead you to weight gain, sedation, and long-term use causes diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and high cholesterol. You should follow the below lifestyle which will help you to keep mentally as well as physically fit.

1. You should do exercises daily for 30 to 45 minutes like at least going for a walk.

2. You should do meditation for 20 minutes daily.

3. You should eat healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.

4. You must drink enough water.

5. You should spend quality time with friends and family daily.

6. You should spend time on creative hobbies.

7. You should get enough sleep daily.

8. You must avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any substance abuse.

I hope that you get your answer.

Thanks and regards.
