Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My palms are sweating a lot. Whether in public and feeling anxious or at home, sweating does not seem normal to me. When my hands sweat, my hands often become cold and red. Chamomile tea and hand scrubbing have also not helped.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The condition you suffer from is called palmar hyperhidrosis, characterized by excess palmar sweating. It could be due to genetic causes, anxiety and mind stress, or endocrinological problems like hyperthyroidism. These conditions often cause social anxiety and even increase stress levels while in public, leading to increased sweating in public and embarrassment. However, there are a few ways you can follow to reduce it. A few ways are:

  1. Keep your mind calm and stress-free.
  2. Avoiding anxiety.
  3. Doing yoga and meditation regularly.
  4. Consuming flavonoids containing fluids like green tea twice or thrice a day.
  5. You can use topical antiperspirants like aluminium chlorohydrate 20 % lotion at bedtime daily few days, followed by intermittent days for a few days and stopping it.
  6. Avoid processed foods and alcohol, including beer, garlic, onion, coffee, caffeine-containing drinks, carbonated drinks, and sweets. These foods tend to increase sweat production from sweat glands.
  7. Include fruit like banana, watermelon, and grapes in your routine. Include vegetables like potato, broccoli, spinach, eggplant, and red cabbage in your daily diet.
  8. If any tobacco use, stop it.

If you can follow this advice, we will be able to reduce palmar sweating to a greater extent. The sweating will not stop abruptly, but slowly you will be able to notice a decrease in sweating. If the sweat is not decreasing over time, visit a dermatologist and have a consultation about the same.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
