Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I think I might have panic disorder. I was researching the symptoms because I had a weird episode. I guess I could call it what I have had in the past (a lot of times), and when I have these episodes, I have most of the symptoms of panic disorder.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You can screen yourself for panic disorder. Do a self-rating test like the PAS self-rating test, which you can easily find online. But exact diagnosis can only be made after a detailed evaluation by a psychiatrist in person. Treatment can then be given accordingly.

Treatment options include medications and psychotherapy.

Meditation daily for at least half an hour in the morning helps you relax and focus. Maintain a journal, log your thoughts uncensored and never read them again. At the time of the attack, try to voluntarily restructure your breathing. Breathe at a rate of around four per second.

Remember, every problem has a solution. You just need to try solving it. Help is just a step away. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Investigations to be done

TFT (thyroid function tests). Psychological testing.

Differential diagnosis

Panic disorder.

GAD.
