I have PCOS/PMOS and frequent urination. Can green tea help?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been diagnosed with PCOS or PMOS with follicles in the right ovary, a small submucosal fibroid on the uterine fundus, and thickening on the lateral side of the bladder. My symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, pelvic pain and pressure, frequent urination with urgency, and fatigue.
I have had a history of recurrent urinary tract infections for over six months. Investigations done include an abdominopelvic scan and urine culture or sensitivity tests.
Could you please advise on possible medications or whether green tea would be beneficial in my case?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Your symptoms and scan findings point to PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), now known as PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome), a small submucosal fibroid, and possible bladder wall thickening, which could be due to chronic inflammation or infection. PCOS or PMOS treatment often focuses on hormone regulation with combined oral contraceptives, progesterone therapy, or metformin if insulin resistance is detected.
Lifestyle changes such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, and weight management are also key to controlling PCOS or PMOS symptoms. Since the fibroid is small, treatment may not be necessary unless symptoms worsen, in which case your gynecologist can discuss options.
The bladder thickening, combined with frequent and urgent urination, suggests a possible ongoing infection or interstitial cystitis. Your urine culture results will help guide the correct antibiotic choice if an infection is confirmed.
For symptom relief, moderate amounts of green tea may offer anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits, but limit caffeine intake to avoid worsening bladder irritation.
To ease discomfort, you can follow:
-
Stay well-hydrated.
-
Avoid bladder irritants such as coffee, alcohol, and spicy foods.
-
Use anti-inflammatory medications under medical guidance.
It is important to follow up with both a gynecologist for PCOS/PMOS and fibroid monitoring and a urologist for further evaluation of the bladder thickening.
I hope this helps.
Please revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
