What can be done to regulate the period cycle?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My periods have been delayed. In the past few years, they have been irregular and fluctuating for four to five days. I have tried all the home remedies but nothing worked. I am very concerned.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your history and understood your concern.

Menstrual irregularities could be due to hormonal imbalances caused by PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)/PMOS (polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome). PCOS/PMOS is an endocrine disorder in which a hormonal imbalance occurs due to cysts in the ovary. There may also be facial hair growth and weight gain.

As it is a lifestyle disease, I suggest you change your lifestyle, eat a high-protein diet with lots of vegetables and fruits, and exercise regularly. Get your hemoglobin, HbA1c (hemoglobin A1c), and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) levels checked. I also suggest you take Progesterone (a steroid hormone) for withdrawal bleeding.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

This has come to me as a wake-up call to improve my lifestyle. I will surely work on this.

  1. Can you please suggest to me when I should take the progesterone tablets?
  2. Also, I am slightly overweight and looking forward to working on it. Is there anything else I can do to get my period early?

Please help.
