Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a peptic ulcer. Sometimes I experienced pain in the upper abdomen or chest and feeling like nausea. I have halitosis too, which I think comes from my gut. I changed my lifestyle by avoiding gluten and sugar as well. I tried home remedies like cabbage juice, and drink apple cider vinegar. But it does not work. I will take probiotics supplements. Do probiotics help to cure peptic ulcers?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

A peptic ulcer is a common gastric issue that causes severe pain and could be painful if not treated properly. Gluten and sugar have no relation with treating peptic ulcers, and probiotics could be helpful, but not that much. Alcohol, smoking, spicy foods, and stress are essential risk factors, along with painkillers. So please let me know what caused the peptic ulcer in your case. Have you performed upper endoscopy? Do you get H. Pylori test? In rare cases, peptic ulcers could be due to cancer, especially if accompanied by weight loss and loss of appetite. Proton pump inhibitors should be used regularly till complete healing.

I hope this information will help.

Thanks.
