Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I completely understand how frustrating long-standing acne can be. I appreciate you sharing the picture (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) for better clarity.

From your history of recurrent pimples, facial hair growth, dryness, tanning, and the picture you shared, you appear to have mild to moderate acne with possible hormonal influence. The presence of facial hair growth suggests some degree of androgen (hormonal) sensitivity, which can contribute to persistent acne.

Regarding your current routine: using a Salicylic acid face wash is generally fine, but if your skin is becoming dry and irritated, it may actually worsen acne by damaging your skin barrier. Also, Vaseline (petroleum jelly) is very occlusive and may feel heavy for acne-prone skin, especially if used in larger amounts. I would recommend stopping both Vaseline and the Salicylic acid face wash temporarily to allow your skin barrier to repair, as a damaged barrier can further aggravate acne.

For clearer, fresher skin, you need a simple and balanced routine.

For daily care, use a gentle, refreshing face wash, followed by a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer. Avoid using Vaseline, as it can clog pores and worsen acne. Sunscreen is very important; apply SPF 30 or higher every morning, even indoors, to prevent worsening of pigmentation.

For acne management, you can start Persol Plus (Adapalene with Benzoyl peroxide) on alternate nights. Apply a pea-sized amount to the entire face over a gentle moisturizer to help protect your skin barrier. This will improve texture, comedones, and some hyperpigmentation.

Avoid harsh scrubs, over-washing, or picking at your skin. Keep your hands clean, maintain a balanced diet, and stay well hydrated. Since your skin is sensitive and easily irritated, introduce products slowly and monitor tolerance.

Be patient with treatment; it usually takes six to eight weeks to see noticeable improvement. Consistent use of sunscreen and moisturizers is key to recovery.

I want to reassure you that with proper care, gentle treatment, and patience, your skin can improve significantly over time. You are not alone, and your concerns are completely valid. Please feel free to follow up regularly so we can adjust your treatment based on your response.

For facial hair, the only standard proven treatment is laser hair removal, which can be performed by a trained dermatologist, usually once a month initially and then gradually extended to every three months depending on hair growth.

Please avoid oral supplements or topical creams marketed for hair removal, as there is no proven benefit, and they may cause more harm than good. For temporary facial hair removal, shaving is preferable to waxing, as waxing can irritate the skin and further aggravate acne.

I hope this has helped you.

Please feel free to reach out to me again if you have further queries.

Thank you.
