Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I just have a quick medical question. Since about yesterday afternoon, I have had pins and needles in my right hand, and my inner elbow is tender. I have both lowered my arm and elevated it, but it has not helped. Should I worry?

Answered by Dr. Arpit Varshney

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The pins and needles sensation is suggestive of peripheral neuropathy (a nerve involvement). However, tenderness in the elbow means pain in the bones. So we need to make sure your bones are fine because sometimes any trauma to the hand can cause pain in your bones and nerves. However, that does not seem to be the case with you. In your case, it seems to be simple peripheral neuropathy which can be treated with the following medications easily:

1. Tablet Methylcobalamine 1500 mcg once daily and tablet folic acid 5 mg once daily.

2. Tablet Gabapentin 400 mg and tablet Nortriptyline 10 mg at night.

I suggest you take these medicines with the advice of your physician. In two days, your symptoms will be gone. However, do complete your course of 15 days.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
