Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had my root canal tooth removed over a week ago. Gums are swollen, red, and very uncomfortable. I was never given antibiotics. The doctor does not have emergency weekend phone contact.

Can you help?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You should always be given an antibiotic post-endodontic treatment or after extraction. If an antibiotic is not given after tooth removal, especially of an infected tooth, the healing will be complicated. That is when you tend to have your gums swelling or soreness. So I would advise you to please start with Amoxicillin 500 mg without any further delay twice a day (after breakfast once and after dinner once) for three to five days approximately till your edema or swelling is relieved. In case you have allergies, or if you do not have any history of any antibiotic or Penicillin allergy, you can definitely take it for three to five days. If you have pain in that area, you can take the tablet Nucoxia P (Etorocoxib and Thiocolchicoside) twice daily (after breakfast and dinner for three days). You can also apply Dentogel or Dologel CT (Choline Salicylate and Lidocaine 2 %) over the reddened or affected area. You can also rinse your mouth with lukewarm salt water five to six times a day to prevent further aggravation or to relieve the gum soreness.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply,

Can you prescribe Amoxicillin for me? If not, where do I go to get this?
