Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I missed my periods, and it is now 20 days. I tested negative two times when I took the pregnancy test. Now, what can be the reason for this delay? Is this normal or anything serious? Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I fully understand your concern. A slight delay is acceptable, but not a delay of 20 days. If you do not have a history of irregular periods, this needs attention. I request you to share the details of your last menstrual period, and if you are sexually active, what precautions are you taking? There are multiple reasons which can cause a delay in periods, like stress, PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome), hormonal changes, certain medications, exercise, breastfeeding, etc. and if you are sexually active and have signs of pregnancy like tender breast, nausea, fatigue, and missed period, then let me tell you that sometimes the hCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) level is not raised adequately high during early pregnancy to give a strong positive result, many times the test is not done correctly so again it is harmful. So, I will request you to get a blood hCG test done so that we are sure of pregnancy or non-pregnancy and focus on the likely cause and treatment, I am always there for you feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information. I hope this helps.
Thank you.
