Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently found out that I am pregnant, approximately a week ago. However, when I called to schedule my first prenatal appointment, I was informed that I would not be able to have an appointment until I am 16 weeks pregnant. I feel that this is an unusually late time to have the first check-up during pregnancy, and it has caused me some concern. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I have reviewed your query and understand your concerns.

After confirming your pregnancy, it is recommended to schedule your first visit to a healthcare professional as early as possible.

During this visit, several necessary investigations should be conducted, including:

  1. Complete blood count (CBC) with blood group determination

  2. Random blood sugar (RBS) test.

  3. Urine routine microscopy test.

  4. HIV test.

  5. HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen) test.

  6. VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) test.

  7. Thyroid profile.

Additionally, an ultrasound scan (USG) should be performed around seven weeks of pregnancy to assess the well-being of the fetus.

It is advised to start taking a tablet of folic acid once daily. Folic acid is important for the healthy development of the baby.

Maintaining proper hydration is crucial, so aim to drink at least three liters of water per day. Including green leafy vegetables and fruits in your diet can also provide essential nutrients during pregnancy.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Thank you.
