Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 17-year-old pregnant female. I am also taking medications Metformin 500 milligrams, Hydrochlorothiazide 25 milligrams, and Amlodipine. Should I temporarily discontinue taking my medications?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

Metformin (anti-diabetic) can be continued for the initial three months. It is usually given to overweight people and does not cause any harm. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic and should not be taken during pregnancy. It is probably given to you because you have high blood pressure. Amlodipine (calcium channel blocker) is also given to control high blood pressure, and it can be taken during pregnancy. I suggest you consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent. Any medicine which controls blood pressure, if stopped abruptly, might be catastrophic.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
