Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

After shaving, the intimate area turned red and irritated. I did not give it much thought. I made an appointment with my doctor when my vagina began to sag and become thin after two months. I am 29 years old. My appointment was for two weeks back, and by then, my symptoms had subsided. My doctor informed me that I had herpes scars. Still, he failed to perform any testing or anything—a few more times without any repercussions (or extremely modest ones). I shaved last week and noticed right away that my skin was red, dry, and severely exfoliating, which was forming bleeding cracks in my perianal area and not a bump. The anal is the site the primary source of pain, making even simple tasks like sitting, walking, and even showering extremely painful. Could this be HSV or something else? I tried to soften the skin with oils, but nothing helped. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

This pain and irritation might be distressing and troublesome. How is it always related to shaving? It may be Herpes simplex virus (HSV), or maybe the shave is a problem for some. The skin is mainly susceptible and reacts oddly even with these symptoms. No bumps, swelling, or ulcers. That is a good thing. Also, check if you have similar exfoliating lesions elsewhere. Kindly check HSV antibodies to see if there is any infection or history of infection due to the same. It is also fit for other sexually transmitted diseases like VDRL (Venereal disease research laboratory tests) and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Suppose you have been sexually active. You may also get a pap smear (papanicolaou test) checked. Also, there is a suggestion of protected intercourse if sexually active. You can take anti-allergic medication for the exfoliations. Sometimes, it is due to the allergy itself.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
