Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 31 years old and quite fit. My weight is 147 pounds, so I am not overweight. My problem is that I have been told that I have a borderline QTc prolongation in my ECG. I consulted a cardiologist, but he said the problem was not serious. All my reports came normal. I asked people about it, and they told me I should avoid strenuous exercise. Please guide me as I am worried that I will have problems if I lose weight.
Should I take precautions? I have undergone an echocardiogram and have a heart rate of 65 to 95 beats per minute. I had palpitations, and my heart rate was normal, but I was stressed. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Diagnosing long QT syndrome takes a lot more than ECG (electrocardiogram). It needs a detailed personal and family history. Your ECG (electrocardiogram) QT interval is borderline from the attached reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Currently, I suggest you avoid strenuous physical activity and instead do an aerobic activity to remain fit.
Please answer the following questions.
After assessing your risk on the above points, you will be asked for an exercise stress test, based on which further risk will be assessed (also yearly after the first time). A 24-hour ECG will be deeply inspected. If the risk is still unclear, then a genetic test will be done.
I hope this helps.
Please revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
