Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am pregnant. I have neck and shoulder pain with muscle knots, headache, and middle back pain. I have poor postures in sleeping and sitting positions. Though I changed my pillow, I get a headache often. Since I am pregnant, can I take medications? Kindly suggest.

Answered by Dr. Sumit Chawla

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Body aches, backaches, and tiredness are common symptoms of the first and third trimesters of pregnancy. Body posture is important because, after childbirth, nursing care requires proper posture. If you have a poor posture, then it should be corrected. I suggest you follow the following instructions:

1. Avoid using thick, hard pillows or excessive soft pillows.

2. Sleep as much as your body feels comfortable, but do not oversleep. Maintain your activity levels by doing exercises and yoga recommended during pregnancy. I suggest you consult your gynecologist to discuss the activities.

I also suggest you apply local analgesic ointment for backaches and hot water fomentation, as they are safe during pregnancy. Inadequate hydration and high blood pressure can cause headaches during pregnancy. Make sure your blood pressure levels are maintained.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I consulted a gynecologist, and the doctor prescribed the tablet Panadol and the ointment Voltaren. For the past five days, I have had headaches in the afternoon. Also, I could feel muscle knots when I touched my neck. I do not know what it is. Should I apply a hot or cold pack? Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Hot pads are recommended for low back aches. Small knobby structures in the midline are normal vertebral prominences. I suggest you consult a doctor for a clinical examination of the neck to rule out cervical spondylosis type of pain.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

I get headaches after watching TV. The knots or knobby structures hurt when I press them. What are the home remedies recommended? Kindly suggest.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Can you share some images regarding the postures to be followed? Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Sumit Chawla

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You should sit straight so that the level of your TV and book should be at eye level so that your neck is not tilted upwards or downwards. I will share the images for correct posture and exercise.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
