Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am wondering about my lab work due to M protein in my blood. I have my lab work available, and I have some questions since I have not been able to get to my doctor.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). There were few changes seen like vitamin insufficiency, increased ALT (alanine transaminase), and AST (aspartate transaminase), indicating liver infection or inflammation. Apart from this, creatinine kinase has increased, which can be due to various reasons such as alcohol intake and skeletal muscle injuries. And positive IgM antibody is suggestive of APS (anti-phospholipid syndrome). It can be controlled by medicine.

M protein is not always serious. If your bone marrow reports are negative, then it is not harmful. Can you please tell me what symptoms do you have currently? Are you taking any medicine now?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

At this time, I do take Crestor, Amlodipine, and Lisinopril. I also take a Baby Aspirin. I have dealt with some type of neuropathy for 18 months. For the most part, I am healthy. My blood pressure is under control with medicine, and my cholesterol also looks good. It was down due to diet. However, my LDL needed to drop under 100, so I began taking Crestor. I have had strange liver enzymes, which have fluctuated between good and high for many years. I was sent a message that the hematologist/oncologist did a bone marrow to find the source of neuropathy.

Hi,

Welcome back to iclinic.com.

These enzymes can then be elevated due to neuropathy only as IgM antibodies suggest that you recently had a disease or may be currently going on. So if you do not have symptoms at all, I would tell you to regularly control your vitals, such as BP, temperature, and a proper healthy diet.

Eat more fruits and vegetables and avoid oily and fast food. Apart from that, avoid alcohol or smoking if you have habits. And daily physical exercises will help you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
