Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can you please tell me if there are examples of patients in the books of psychiatry that suffered only with one acute brief psychotic episode (F23) and were completely cured. And never relapsed during their lifetime or if there is a survey over that and a percentage. I had one back before four years. I stayed in the hospital for 27 days. I quit medication immediately after my hospitalization, and it has not relapsed, I feel healthy, very active, love my friends and family, love my job.

The psychotic episode happened immediately after an extremely stressful week in which I experienced psychological abuse, no prodromal symptoms. It started and developed in a week. I got better quickly. Am I still considered a patient, or am I considered healthy? Because they told me that it had been categorized as chronic and this statement or stigma if you like to cause me bureaucratic difficulties, but I am completely healthy.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You had acute transient psychosis versus acute stress reaction with psychotic symptoms. We all break down under unusual stresses. In all individuals, this threshold may be different. Some shows very profound breakdown like psychotic symptoms under pressure, which may be defined by their genetic vulnerability.

If you take this stress of conversion into a chronic psychotic state then this may also add up into risk factor, so do not worry choose the preventive measures like, always get enough sleep, do not involve into stressful work, practice yoga meditation do regular physical activity of 30 minutes will increase your threshold.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
