Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got vaccinated against rabies three years back, and after one year, I got scratched by a dog. When I went to have my booster, the doctor wanted to repeat my vaccination because I lost my vaccine card against rabies, so I repeated them all. Last year, I got scratched by a stray cat, so I got a booster this year. I got scratched again, and they gave me a booster again this month. Is this okay? I thought the rabies vaccine was effective for four years. Why did they give me a booster five months after my last? They also told me to be careful as some vaccines fail. Can I contract rabies because of the vaccine? On my vaccination, am I safe against rabies? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Regarding your experience with cat and dog scratches following intake of vaccine, yes, you need to be careful because of an overzealous anaphylactic reaction. Yes, you need a booster to strengthen the vaccine potency. If your symptoms persist, schedule another appointment for follow-up via chat, phone, or video consultation.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
