Swollen foot after cat scratch. Am I infected with rabies?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was scratched by a cat in my left foot and a little blood went out. It was like three or four days until now, when I noticed that my left foot is a little swollen. Am I already infected by rabies?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Because of the dog bite, inflammation can develop and in inflammation swelling can occur and pain also can be there. The incubation period for rabies is two weeks. So, you are not having rabies but to prevent it if you are not vaccinated then get rabies vaccine because it is not too late. The vaccination schedule is at 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28 days for non vaccinated person. If you are previously vaccinated then the schedule is different. Take care. Regards.
