Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been dealing with decay and tooth pain for too long. I want to know what specific treatments are available to fix this decay issue once and for all. Also, can you give me detailed oral hygiene instructions that I can stick to? I want something effective and practical.

My dentist advised simply filling the tooth and extracting the decaying portion. However, given that the decay is near the tooth's important part of the tooth, if I let this worsen, I might need root canal therapy. So, is this RCT a scary procedure? My friends say that it hurts a lot overall.

Kindly provide guidance.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for briefing me regarding the problem of concern.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

1. Root canal treatment (RCT) is treated after numbing the teeth. So there will be no pain felt during the treatment.

2. Root canal treatment is done only if the infection reaches the pulp.

3. Filling is done if the infection does not reach the pulp.

4. It is cost-effective and painless to get your teeth filled soon.

I would like to give some important tips regarding oral hygiene:

1. Brush twice regularly for two minutes.

2. Use a medium-sized and extra soft-bristled toothbrush.

3. Use fluoridated toothpaste.

4. Do not use toothpaste with high abrasive content as it may wear off your enamel.

5. Use a flosser or water flosser to clean in between the teeth.

6. Use a tongue scraper or the back of your toothbrush with the tongue cleaner to clean your tongue.

7. It prevents bad breath.

8. Avoid sticky and high-sugar-content food.

9. Intake food with high protein and fiber content.

The Probable causes: Food with high sugar intake. Investigations to be done:X-ray of the tooth to determine the level of infection.

Differential diagnosis:1. Dental caries.Treatment plan: Restoration of infection within the dentin. RCT, if the infection reaches the pulp. Preventive measures: For oral hygiene,1. Brush twice regularly for two minutes 2. Use a medium-sized bristled toothbrush 3. Use fluoridated toothpaste 4. Do not use toothpaste with high abrasive content as it may wear off your enamel 5.
