How to manage recurrent pain in an RC-treated tooth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had done my root canal one day before. It was paining very bad. After RCT and I went today, they did an X-ray today, and they told me RCT filling is 1 millimeter more to be filled. I have done it and will see after a day. If it is still painful there, I will check it.

But my question is, I am already in more pain now root canal has also failed. What could be done?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I think your tooth is infected, or there is some canal in the tooth that has not been accessed properly. Take medication for at least three days your pain will be over. If a root canal treatment is done properly, it will not fail. If your tooth is sound, much of the crown part is there. I suggest you go for a root canal. You can also upload a picture here or a picture of an X-ray. I can tell you properly if there are any chances of failure.

A probable cause can be an improperly managed RCT (root canal treatment). Investigations suggested are an X-ray or IOPAR (intraoral periapical radiograph). Differential diagnosis can be periapical periodontitis. The probable diagnosis is acute pulpitis.

I suggest you take the following medications after consulting with your physician:

1. Tablet Amoxyclave (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) 625 mg twice daily for three days.

2. Tablet Lyser D (Diclofenac and Serrotopeptidase) if needed.

As a preventive measure, avoid hot and cold fluids.

I suggest you visit us back with an X-ray.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.
