Hi doctor,
I have been battling tonsillitis for five days and have taken a course of Amoxicillin 500mg three times a day. But my throat condition has not improved whatsoever. I have noticed throughout the week that my gums are receding and have become very tender. My mouth produced a lot of saliva than it normally does, and I have these small white spots on the tip of my tongue and the ceiling of my mouth. I have been given another course of antibiotics, but I am unsure if it will worsen my oral health. The doctor has prescribed Metronidazole 400 mg three times a day. Can I take both drugs simultaneously, as instructed? I want to overcome pain. Please help.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.
Receding gums are not something that happens overnight; they must have been happening for a long time but were only recently noticed. Metronidazole is for gum infection, so you are advised appropriately to take both medications simultaneously. Also, you can do warm saline gargles or antiseptic mouthwash gargles and take steam inhalation. White spots on the tongue tip and roof of the mouth are secondary to Infection. If the gums continue to recede, then you can lose your teeth. I would like you to send a picture of your gums to evaluate the need for further treatment or if just medication is enough.
