What could be the reason for the redness and infection in my left eye that does not improve with eye drops?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have redness in my left eye, and it looks infected. I have tried eye drops. But there is no effect, and I think I need an antibiotic.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There are many causes of redness, like infection, allergy, or dryness. Without proper eye examination, we cannot be sure if this redness is due to infection or something else. Kindly share a photo of the eye for better evaluation. If you just want the name of the antibiotic, then I can suggest Moxifloxacin eye drops, but I recommend against self-medication and advise consulting a local ophthalmologist. Please feel free to discuss this in detail.
