Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have difficulty swallowing, and I burp frequently. I feel some pressure in the nerve in my throat and at the left side of my head, which relieves with drinking water but returns later. I have sleeping difficulty because of this problem. My tonsils are swollen, and I find it hard to swallow saliva. My nose is blocked, and I have difficulty breathing at room temperature. In addition, I have been taking painkillers for neck, head, and ear pain for the past three years. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I understand your concern. Do you smoke, drink or eat spicy food? With the symptoms mentioned, you appear to have reflux laryngitis (inflammation of the voice box). Have you taken any specific treatment for this? Painkillers do not help with reflux laryngitis and can aggravate acidity. To confirm the diagnosis, I suggest you follow up with an image of your throat and the back wall of the throat. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply. I do not smoke or drink. I have stopped eating spicy foods. I did a test recently, which confirmed I have H.pylori in my stool. But I have treated it with antibiotics (Clarithromycin, Amoxicillin, and Lansoprazole). I was advised to stop the medications for two weeks. I have given another stool sample to confirm if H.pylori has been eliminated. I am still having trouble breathing, my throat is tight, and I feel pressure at the left side of my throat that relieves with burping. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below. 1. Continue the proton pump inhibitor (Lansoprazole) without the antibiotics for a few more weeks. 2. Follow healthy dietary and lifestyle changes. 3. Take frequent small quantity meals. 4. Avoid bitter foods and citrus fruits. 5. Exercise regularly. 6. Undergo diagnostic laryngoscopy procedure to confirm the diagnosis. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply. I have just noticed that my right tonsil is swollen. In addition, there is a swollen gland at the right side of my neck that exerts pressure on the nerve in my neck, leading to discomfort and imbalance. I also have breathing difficulty, cough, frequent clearing of throat, mucus in my throat, and blocked sinuses. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Frequent throat clearing, throat discomfort, headaches, and lack of sleep can be due to the reflux problem. Disturbed sleep can lead to imbalance, tiredness, and daytime drowsiness. I suggest you follow up with the following details. 1. Picture of the swollen tonsil. 2. Does the swollen gland in the neck hurt? 3. Is the gland palpable or visible to the naked eye? 4. Did you do an ultrasonogram of the swollen gland? 5. What sort of imbalance do you get? Is it momentary or long-lasting? 6. Do you feel a spinning sensation? 7. Is it triggered by any change of position or head movement? I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor.

Thank you for the reply. The swollen gland is not visible to the naked eye. I am yet to do an ultrasonogram. I was prescribed Phenoxymethylpenicillin for the same. The imbalance is long-lasting, feels like a spinning sensation, and is triggered by the movement of my head.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You appear to have throat congestion (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). I suggest you continue the prescribed Methylpenicillin (antibiotic). It will help with the swollen gland and the throat infection. However, I am more concerned about the spinning sensation. Have you done something about it? How long does the sensation last? I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
