I took Regestrone but my period is 35 days late. What now?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a 3-year-old child. Now I want to avoid unplanned pregnancy. Usually, mine is a 27-day cycle. I got my last period 35 days ago. Till now, I have not got the period. I have not done any pregnancy tests.

I started taking Regestrone tablets from last week for two days (morning and night, one pill each) still, my periods did not start. But I am having period pain. What to do?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Firstly, Regestrone (Norethisterone) has to be taken for five days twice or thrice daily. A lesser dose may not help to induce your period. The lesser dose may be the cause of your delayed period.

Secondly, even after completion of dosage, it takes about 7 to 10 days to start.

Thirdly as you have not taken a pregnancy test, I would suggest you kindly do that. If it is negative kindly revert. Also, kindly revert to the contraceptive option.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Just now, I tested with the pregnancy test kit, and it shows negative only. I have a doubt. I took two Regestrone tablets. Would that be a reason for the negative pregnancy result?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Do not worry. Regestrone does not interfere with a pregnancy test. Urine pregnancy test measures hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) hormone different from Progesterone (Regestrone). So the result is very reliable. So now, stay stress-free. Your period should come in a few days.

Once you start menstruating, you can decide on the contraception you want to avoid unwanted pregnancy. Any doubt or query kindly get back to me. Stay safe. Regards.
